Chess Typos

So I was browsing for a moment and came across a review of a new DVD that is a repetoire for the black side of the french and then I ran across the following:

This DVD covers:
  • 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 c5
  • 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2 Nf6 4.e5 Nfd7
  • 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.e5 Nfd7
  • 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 Be7
  • 1.e4 e6 2.exd5
  • 1.e4 e6 2.Nf3 d5 3.Nc3
  • 1.e4 e6 2.d3 (King’s Indian Attack)
  • 1.e4 e6 2.Qe2
  • 1.e4 e6 2.Nf3 d5 3.b4 (Wing Gambit)
I really hope this isn't actually on the back cover of the DVD, I hope some editor somewhere along the way would have caught this mistake, but oh well, time for me to embarass somebody anyways (Note: feel free to point out all my typos and grammatical mistakes in this blog or even in this post). I find it quite difficult for white to play 2. ed against the French, this is a serious novelty that I can honestly say I have never faced over the board. I guess it's the 2 minute gambit line or something because after 2. ed, I will stop the clock, call the director, make an illegal move claim and then have 2 extra minutes on my clock. Alright, that was definitely a little harsh, but oh well. If you want to see the site for yourself click the link on the title.

I was obviously joking around with them. I wouldn't not buy a product for such a reason. Although I think this would be the most important thing on my list of typos to avoid. I mean how often are books printed with the bottom right hand square of the board being a dark sqaure??

2. ed is that annoying hotshot who thinks he can play chess, but when he finds out he can't, he takes his king and knocks all the pieces over.

See another glaring typo in there? Look at the wing gambit variation... at least this one is legal, but almost certainly it is a novelty.

Good catch, I can't believe I didn't notice that. But I think it comes from a wise maxim no coach has ever told me: "The best move in a position is certain to be a legal one!" I think this probably really is on the back of that DVD case sadly.
